All,

Trying to install an oil vapor catch can on the crankcase ventilation hose,
to reduce oil and vapors being fed into the intake manifold.

Anyone got a picture and location of the PCV hose?

I use a compressed air water separator
and some filter material from an oil filter,
along with two 1/4 plastic elbows...

A long time ago, crankcase blow by used to be vented to the atmosphere,
Then the EPA decided this was bad for the environment.

Crankcase vapors are now fed back into the intake, to be burned.
With today's hotter running engines, to increase mileage and reduce emissions,
more oil is being vaporized,
and the intake manifolds are becoming coated with sticky oil film,
This plays havoc with the sensors in the manifold, and the throttle body..

I have seen it so bad, I used a spatula to scrape the worst off...

A catch can reduces the oil fed into the intake...

I know how the pcv system works. That was not the question. The oil vapor from hot oil in the crankcase expands into the intake system when the hot engine is turned off and condenses on the cooler intake system. When the engine is running only filtered air is going into the intake system upstream of the throttle body. If you add a catch can you are defeating the system that keeps a negative pressure in the crankcase. If you have excessive muck build-up in the intake system then something else is going on. Do what you want and good luck with it.

On older cars I used to like the cute little K&N vent filters. Never had oil blow past them. Of course here in California any such monkey business will make your car fail the visual portion of the smog inspection.
