I received an email notice last night that I was now allowed to place my Smart Car order! It stated that I must place my order by September 30th, or risk losing my order priority and delaying delivery of my vehicle. It also stated by placing my order now, I should receive my new vehicle within the first 3 months of 2008. So I went ahead and placed my order of a silver/silver Cabrio with every available option. The cost excluding tax, license, registration, destination charge and dealer installed accessories was $18,230. I am from northern Michigan (Traverse City) and placed my $99 reservation on March 19th, 2007. Any questions, please ask. Anyone else from Michigan placed an order yet or am I and Roger Penske the first!

So, by placing your order you had to....... leave a non-refundable deposit of 10%, have approved financing, pay cash etc.? What assures them that you WILL buy the car when it arrives?

What was your reservation number? Based on your reservation date I know the last 5 digits are 11173. I'm trying to figure out the rest of the digits.

So I see the confirmation process is still just doing 3/19 reservations. I think thats over 1000 just for that one day alone.

I placed my order Monday 9/17 at 5: 30 PM (red panels, silver tridion, leather seats). I started the process on 3/19. Attempts to find out the REAL sequence of reservations proved fruitless. I was told I'd be contacted by a dealer possibly within the next 2 months.

Looks like they're starting to make progress. Let's see. It's taken almost a month to clear through 1173 (3/19), it should be sometime around the end of February when they get around to me at 1178 (3/24).

I printed off my reservation on 4/3/07 and the last four digits are 1188 or only 14 'cars' later than yours (if this logic holds?? ... unless you need to look at the 5th digit from the right which would be 1 in my case and your is 0 perhaps?). I see the official site talks about getting the email as you did so still waiting along with others ...

The email I referred to was the confirmation of my reservation @ 8:02 PM on March 19th. The prior digit was also a 1. I suspect that the beginning of the number is what really tells what order you're in. the end of the number has something to do with which day you signed up.

The last 4 digits refer to the date, not the reservation number. the fifth digit from the right will only ever be a 0, 1 or 2. I haven't figured this digit out yet, but certainly has nothing to do with with the order sequence. I am still tring to figure out what the first 6 digits signify, but I need more people with 1173 as the last 4 digits (March 19 reserve date) to send me their full confirmation number and whether they received the invitation yet to order online.
