How does one know if they need a bungee cord on the steering wheel when flat towing?

If it is determined that a bungee is required, what size is best to use and where/how do you connect it?

I just finished setting up our 453 to flat tow and before taking off down the road I want to be sure I don't damage the car so I'm creating a checklist of everything I need to do. For anyone who wants to install a baseplate on a 453, it's pretty involved as the hood and entire front panel have to be removed from the car, However, it's really not difficult if you are patient and read, read, read the instructions (not something I'm known for). Oh, and I wish I had stopped at each step to take pictures. Not only to share here but it would have helped me remember where everything goes.

Thanks in advance!

we stopped using the bungee on our 451 due to eating the front tires up. the key is never turn hard one way, then immediately hard the other way. it gets the steering wheel going back and forth lock to lock. we never have any trouble now. just let the car straighten out before turning the opposite way.
