Do you think it is possible to build something like this for the smart?

Sweet, I want one, And it would only need to sleep 2 rather than the beetles 4

Come on Indiana trailer industry
Of course it's POSSIBLE, but like everything else, all it takes is $$$$$$

Just like in racing; speed cost $$$, how fast do you want to go ??? :burnout:

There is a bunch DIY plans on how to build teardrop lightweight trailers online. So, I think it is possible to build one for under $3K.
These are some of the RV manufacturers that have gone out of business recently. I suspect a custom like the video's would be a DIY project.

This year is predicted to be just as tough or tougher on the RV Industry than was 2008. There are several more RV Manufacturers that have stopped production temporarily, laid off hundreds of employees, sold off their RV divisions and even a few more that could possibly file for bankruptcy in the next few months.

I don't think that one would work for a cabrio owner!:D
They had it in 1974, why don't they have it today for the smart?

LiveLeak.com - The 1974 Volkswagen Beetle makes your car look like some weak sh1t

1974 brought an awesome top-mounting RV trailer for the VW Beetle, which had less power than the Smart. It was extremely maneuverable and worked very well. Why don't we have something like this today?

What RV Manufacturers Are Out Of Business?
Going to Milwaukee RV show Sat. A friend wants to get a camping trailer. Will be interesting to see how it is.
If camping companies made low cost trailers that can be towed by small cars (the trend now a days), they might have more success? :) IMO; small and affordable is the way to go. :)

Here is one called Compact Camping Concepts.

Google and 'teardrop trailer plans'. Bing and 'teardrop trailer plans'. There were some that were free.
Cube,
If you are actually serious you know I would build it for you!

I am going to be build a travel trailer this spring, I am basing it on the design in the picture, can't tow it with a Smart but a smaller V-6 truck would work. I will keep you all posted when the build starts.
