I needed my windshield replaced this week, and now the rain sensor no longer works. The wipers themselves work fine, and the automatic headlights, but when set to auto the wipers will not come on. I have not talked to the company that did the replacement yet, since it started raining while they are closed. I just wanted to check here and see if there's anything simple I could check or any more information I should give them when they open and I can give them a call.

Same thing happened to me. I noticed it looked like the liquid in the center of the auto wiper sensor has an air pocket in it, like it needs more liquid in it.

Me too. Safelite had to come back, take off the sensor and put a gel pack sort of thing between the sensor and the glass. It was several years ago so I don't remember exactly what they used, but it was a kit designed for a sensor in a different make of vehicle. It did fix the problem.
That sounds promising, since it was Safelite that did the windshield replacement.

Apparently they are not open today although I thought they were. Either way, I went through and set up a warranty service appointment through the automated system with a description of the problem. So hopefully this will be taken care this week.

I'll have to figure out how to test it when it isn't raining. Maybe I'll get a spray bottle or something.

My bet would be the gel pack. It should be replaced each time the sensor is removed. Another problem could be the windshield itself. Some replacement glass has a little different optic then OEM (don't know if this is a problem for smarts but it sure is for VAG products..). And of course it could be the tech damaged the sensor during the install. Whatever it should be SafeLights problem not yours. Good Luck.

That will definitely do it. The gel needs to be sealed properly for the sensor to work. Call your installer back and have them return to finish the job correctly. It happens sometimes.

I had the same problem the last time my windshield was replaced by SafeLite. They sent a guy out the next day to fix it.

Here you go….. I don’t think there’s any adhesive to glue it back on. MB, Doesn’t seem to offer it. looks like you have to purchase a new one. You ought to check with safelight they would know.
