I know wear varies on conditions and driving habits but what is the typical mileage where the drum brakes need changing?

Not sure anyone knows. Doesn't come up much so I'm guessing they last a long time.

No idea. I’m a skip and a hop from 140k and my drums still work fine.

Not that I am a typical driver by any means, but I have not changed rear brakes on any of my cars. Since a majority of the stopping power comes from the front (weight transfer and such) I don't think the rear brakes do much on such a light car. I have had over 160K miles on my smarts and still on the original shoes. But like I said, my braking may not be typical.

I've got over 140K and my drums and linings are good

110km here and all in good checked mine at 100k and they looked almost new

Replaced rears on 2 smarts s far

I had to replace my rear brakes on two of my smarts. The brake pad released from the steel portion and wedged it self so well that the car would not move forward or backwards.
