You were looking at loaded versions of the two cars.:)
'Tis true, hence the "that I would like" disclaimer. It was a Fit Sport and the top trim Fiesta. Based on what I see on the road, though, I would hazard to guess that the Fit Sport easily outsells the base and that the same will likely hold true for the Fiesta - nothing to back this up but anecdotal evidence, though. And, I wouldn't argue that these cars aren't worth the bucks. The Fit Sport is a nice piece of work in that segment.

Point is, nowadays it's not too difficult to find B-segment 5-doors quickly approaching or exceeding $20K. I priced an Elantra Touring edition the other day as well and it was at the magic $20K sticker as well, but it is a bit larger.

It's interesting to see how some member's opinions have changed over time.

Well, numbskull ideas about rebadging a Nissan March weren't around back then... A-classes would be sheer genius by comparison...

I must say, however, I wasn't all that impressed with the A-class we rented in Berlin in January this year. Somehow, lower rent plastics and cloth are funky and I love them in our smart, and at the same time are dull and feel econobox in the A.

On the other hand, the A-class performs admirably on the Autobahn for such a type of car. Outclasses a Polo, for instance. But again, a Polo feels young and chic whereas the A just feels like a low-end Merc.

I would buy a diesel A class, but I must say I don't like the looks of the new ones I'm seeing over here compared to the older 160s and 170s. The 180 has morphed in a 'bad' direction.

I wouldn't be particularly interested in a re-badged Nissan, but I like the Fortwo, so call me silly [silly!].

We're forgetting something here, the new forfive (???) will not be "rebadged". It was already announced that it'll be based on the new Micra/March "platform". Or in other words, the forfive and the Nissans will mostly share only mechanical parts.

What this means is that the car won't have smart mechanical, but it'll have smart design.

I don't see why everyone hates the forfour here. It's not really even a true Colt (the Colt is shorter, looks worse, has less options, looks cheaper, IS cheaper, etc.) but only shares the Colt's mechanicals and chassis. Heck, the forfour was the BETTER Colt! :)

I think that the forfive could possibly be a pretty decent car.

maybe it'll be a Ps forfive.
Penske smart but then some people would pronounce it wrong and that wouldn't sound too good would it. Psss forfive.

A Diesel rebadged smart A class could be our future Camry replacement.
