I have a 2008 passion with just over 70,000 miles that's been relatively trouble-free. The last couple of months the ability to shift into reverse gear has been intermittent. I've had to stop and restart the car in order to have reverse appear. The other thing that is strange- is sometimes when reverse does appear, the reverse lights will not go on. Other times the lights go on just fine when reverse comes on. ( I can tell from the reflection off my garage door)

Other than taking it to the dealer, is there anything else I can check? I had the clutch actuator disassembled twice for lubrication. The last time I did it was about 20,000 miles ago. I tried the transmission re-teach too. Is it worth a shot to inspect and re-lube? Maybe it has nothing to do with it, but I'm trying to avoid a dealer visit

Thoughts?

One would need a scan tool with European vehicle coverage to read fault codes, primarily in the trans control module, to have a place to start. Otherwise, all you have are guesses.
