Rusty wheel hubs

188 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  smark
So in the process of rotating the tires I noticed that the front hubs were pretty rusty. The rears weren't nearly as bad, although they had some rust on them too. The tires came off okay, but I'm wondering if I should clean them up and if so, with what? See attached.

A steel brush and a facemask. I don't enjoy the taste of metal. Also some anti-seize on the threads will help; and on the mating surface. (just don't goober it on)

Thanks guys. I did hit it with the wire brush. I thought about anti-seize on the mating surface. I'm not a fan of using anti-seize on bolts that call for a torque value.

That's fine with the notion on the bolts. I also forgot that there is caliper and brake paint. {Perhaps Red on the front calipers for the Brembro look}. I just rotated my Kellys on the back side to side and the wrench impacted them on that I had to use a 3 foot breaker bar. I also use 17mm spacers so the bolts are 2in long.

Just clean them up. Perfectly normal on every make model car..
Clean up the inside of the alloy wheel too. Where it touches the hub.
