I am doing Uber eats to make extra cash for 2 front rims and 195 tires. I drive and my wife takes the food up to the door.
Her seat belt hangs in the door and she can't remember to check it and the door jamb is getting dented all over the place. I am wondering what luck has been had in cutting the part that is over the seat belt and kinda looks like an anchor. It appears the belt curls up on each side and the distorts the belt causing it to drag on the overhead thingy.

or any other ideas

thanks guys

I have the exact same problem and it is aggravated by the fact that I have the "SMART" shoulder pads on my belts. I by case of habit slide the shoulder pad down and feed the belt back up but the wife and virtually any passenger I have releases the belt, gets out and the belt never fully retracts and gets jammed up when they try to close the door. I tried using those little plastic button stops but that didn't work at all. JimVW57 could you elaborate on the newer style seat loops you are talking about? What years had the older style and when did they begin the newer style? Thanks. DCO

In our 453 the seat belts kept coming loose by pulling through the little slot in the shoulder ring so I put some heat shrink tubing over the crack, works great. Mine are black so you can hardly see the tubing.
Did the same with mine. Passenger side problem same for me in both my previous 451 and current 453. Have even had that issue with some 4 door cars on the rear right side.

The loop on the upper backrest was changed to a more rounder shape than the 2008-2009 ones. Newest smart I ever got is a 2009 and they are the same as the 2008. The newer style is supposed to allow the belt to slide more smoothly and retract better I am sure someone on here has replaced the old style with the newer one and can report on replacing them.

according to the parts guide, 2008 pass seatbelt loop part number is 451-860-00-22 and the 2013 part number is 451-860-05-22. same price on both parts.

Jimvw57, what do you mean by the newer style.....how so? is it a new melt or is it the guide and how do you get the guide off? I see no screws holding it on. Get it thru MB?
451 Seatbelt Guide Upgrade

"Have you noticed how the 451 seat belts don't retract very well? It's not the belt, it's the angle of the guide causing friction."

Annual Subscription to Kane's work of "smart love" is well worth the "investment" of approximately $1.50 per month (subject to dollar to pound flux)!

how many of you have replaced the old seatbelt guide with the new style? How well has the new style been working for you? How much were they, US dollars? And finally how do you remove the old and put the new in?
