Hello group,


Has anyone ever switched the driver's and passenger's seats so that the one further back is on the driver's side and the one further forward is on the passenger side? A few years ago I met this woman at a shopping center who said her sons had done just that. She let me sit inside her 2009 smart and lo and behold, the seat went ALL the way back and locked into place. Just wondered if this was feasible from a safety standpoint. Anyone?

the controls for the seat would be on the outside of the passenger compartment and tough to get to (in my opinion) and the idea of the driver being farther forward is to be able to see past the passenger for the mirrors and such. Also the passenger may be in the way for driving , shifting (with the floor shift) etc. but it would be up to you to decide if it is a problem or not.

Oops, didn't think of that... maybe you could switch the seat rails underneath(??)

Also are the seat mounting holes in different positions? Can't check right now to confirm.

Buy a different vehicle. The smart seating was designed, for it is. Not for modifying the seating.
