I have a Smart which has a transmission error light on. The dealer here in The Cayman Islands for Mercedes says they dont have a license for Smart so won’t even look at it. The old dealer says they cannot get a code to update the software. They say do not drive the car, but there seems to be no solution available. Any ideas what can be done to get a software update overseas?

More information would help - year and mileage of the car, any OBD codes, symptoms of transmission problems, etc......

Sorry for the delay, loads of pops ups keep coming up so I couldn't enter anything...
its a 2011 Smart Passion convertible originally purchased in Canada I believe, 48,000 kilometers
when you try to put into reverse it hesitates likes its not quite lined up correctly.
