I don't want to seem dismal, but you might want to change your name to something Fiat related as Mercedes has dropped gas smarts on it's kiester. electric sales are in the toilet, with no advertising, expect them to get worse.
We go by smartmadness. We also sell products for FIAT but they are different cars and makes so we sell FIAT products under 500madness. We are not going to stop making products for the smart community as there is a big demand for aftermarket products on the gas versions. We also make a few replacement parts as well so even though they are getting discontinued we will still offer products for those that were made.

Am i the only one who would have really liked to have just seen some sort of intake tube replacement?
ElementalDragon,

We were working on various concepts however now that the gas version 453 will no longer be offered and the demand is to low we have chosen to no longer make an intake for the 453. however we do offer a large variety of aftermarket products for the 453 still.

Kinda seems a little contradictory. Not going to stop making products for the Smart community due to high demand for aftermarket products... yet you're basically no longer going to be making PERFORMANCE products for the gas versions.

How do you know demand for an intake was low? Was there a poll? An attempt at a group-buy to see how many you might be able to sell that fell short of your goals? I've seen no such thing. I've been waiting for an intake to come out on the market since the day i got my 453. I'd even be willing to buy one of those concept designs if they were actually fully functioning and daily driver capable.

Of course we will still be offering Performance products for the gas versions! We will continue to offer the products that we currently offer for the 450/451 and 453. We are active not only through telephone but through car events, many different forums, social media and face to face. We read and hear about what people want for different cars that we design products for. There is a high demand for some parts and almost no demand for other aftermaket parts. There has been very little demand for a intake for the 453. The cost and time it would take to produce one would be more than we would make and we would lose money by offering an intake for the 453 due to such low demand for an actual aftermarket intake. We cannot speak for other companies but from our knowledge they do not offer an aftermarket intake possibly for the same reason. Since we never finished building an intake that would be in production we cannot sell any of the concepts we were working with for various reasons. If demand for an intake increases in the future we may consider offering an intake but at this time there is no plans to offer one.

Loving the carbon fiber version .. thinking that a scoop/ high flow filter will add just a smidge more hp to the Lorinser power pack upgraded 453 . :)
Hey 1stiski,

Thank you! It will definitely give you better air flow which helps in gaining more power!
Ordered up the filter and side scoop in Carbon fiber look . Should look great .

Does anyone know if there is a baffle in the OEM intake anywhere? I know some call it a resonator / baffle , used to reduce intake noise . Any help here will be appreciated.

Not sure on the 453, but the 451 has a large baffle box behind the fender at the vent. It doesn't go directly from vent to airbox. It has the box in between.

I'm kinda thinking about maybe trying to rig up my own custom intake tube or something of the sort for my 453.... just not sure what size coupling's i'd need to go from the turbo inlet to some sort of pipe... be it pvc or aluminum, and then back to the factory filter box.... or if i'd want to rip the factory box out and just to a cone filter. Dunno.

I'm sure there's SOME sort of baffle box witchcraft going on in there... otherwise i'm sure you'd hear that turbo quite nicely with it being right behind your rear end and all.

I wish you offered something more like the Michalak Sucker for the 450's for the 453's.
We only offer this style for the 453. We believe this improves the air flow to the intake better than other scoops on the market.

Every model for the smart changed so we have only 4 options for the smart fortwo that we believe best fit aesthetically and for performance.

Just a bit of an update on my own current situation.....

I recently purchased a modified factory intake tube from smart-stuff.parts. Just got it today and installed it. I'm not 100% sure on this... and it might just be a bit of an initial placebo effect of me just trying to find something that changed with the car... but i'd swear it's idling a LOT smoother than before with the original tube. I don't know if maybe @SmartMadness might have any similar input on that idea from when they were testing their own intake prototypes...

Hasn't really seemed to make it any louder like i would have hoped... but the smoother idle so far is a plus.

Here's a link to the intake i bought:

https://www.smart-stuff.parts/453-f...-intake-hosepipe---453-smart-turbo-898cc-8573

As you can see, that one is a pretty similar diameter the entire length of the pipe (it does gradually get smaller to join up with the turbo at the bottom). Here is the factory one:

As you can obviously tell... HUGE difference in the middle. But the weird part is when you take the middle bit off.

Haven't taken both hose clamps off, but it appears to be the exact same on both sides from what i can tell (might take the other side off later and get a better idea of it). It kinda seems a bit hard to believe that such a thing could do ANYTHING to disrupt or restrict airflow... which is kind of confusing to me. It's basically a straight-through section of pipe, with an extra air chamber on the outside, with only a few tiny gaps around it for air to even go through to get into those chambers.

Going on a bit longer of a drive now... will update later tonight or tomorrow if i remember.

I don't see the carbon fiber ones on your website. Are they still offered?
