Must be nice, to live in Great Britain. A repair outlet, to have your 450, 451, and 453 smart, work on. Smart car specialist.
Anybody jealous here?

For those who own a 451. Is it true, the 450 engine has 2 spark plugs per cylinder. The engine doesn’t have a oil drain plug. You use a oil extractor to suck the oil, from the crank case?

I’m not a expert on the 450. Smart might have changed things. 5:03 into the video, he claims, there isn’t a drain plug, on he’s 450. That shop has that 450, up on the rack too. To change the oil filter and the other Maintenance. I have a Arbor freight hand pump oil extractor, I use on all my cars.

Smark, (sorry, dang spellcheck keeps messing with your screen name!) We , here’s another video showing the oil change for a Roadster, but the caption says it’s also for a 450 - also using an extraction pump.

I wonder if the UK/European cars don’t have drain plugs. The video I posted earlier is a Canadian car and definitely has a drain plug.

Any UK or Canadian members want to chime in?

Yes, the Smart 450 CDI has 6 spark plugs.

No, the Smart 450 CDI has an oil drain plug.
Actually, that is double incorrect. :)

The CDI is a diesel, which uses compression for igniting diesel fuel. There are no spark plugs at all in a CDI. Gas-powered 450s do use six spark plugs.

450s also do not have oil drain plugs. My coupe doesn't and neither did the cabrio that I used to have. There are aftermarket oil pans that you can get that do have a drain plug.

Yep, and the oil filter sits in a position that makes it effectively impossible to drain from there. I use a fluid transfer pump to get the oil out of my 450.

And Yes I do envy the Shop access in the UK as well as the available wheel sets. Greece Is another Smart Shop haven to me. I see less about Italian Shops although the abundance of Older Smarts there makes me believe there is some real mechanical wealth there. I do know the exhaust tip I want is in Turin.

I went to this place a couple of weeks ago with a 450 and a trivial problem. Ben and Jack found a seriously perished engine mount and loose front wishbone - unscheduled repair in an hour. As good as their reputation. 'I'll be back...'
