Hi Anthony and welcome. If you would like to achieve instant sainthood here, just let us know how to enable Daytime Running Lights on the smart, or if aftermarket DRL modules will work with the 2008 USA spec cars. Thanks!

as far as i know, the chirp comes from the siren itself, so theres really no way to eliminate it. and im not exactly sure about the daytime running light issue. but i will check both things out and let everybody know!

JWright.... at the risk of getting slammed for asking questions that I might find if I google it.... do the DRL's only come with the performance package? or is it something that is there but has to be activated as you asked?

I bought my smart car at Wild Jaguar of Sarasota ,only thing I wish is ,it was closer to St Pete 50 miles is a little to far to drive for service every time I need work done

I do have a couple of questions you might be able to answer though ,the 1st one is on the CD Changer since day 1 it changes very slow after reading a few blogs here saying it takes from 90 to 120 seconds tends to be normal , mine sometimes takes over 5 minutes ,I end up turning the radio back on.

second question I received a letter a couple of weeks ago and it might have even been from you telling me to change the oil after 5000 miles ,should I do this or follow the owners manual, my other car is a 06 Mecedes E320CDI ,and I only change the oil once a year ,even the mechanic says if doesn't need to be changed any more often

last question I'm thinking of wrapping at least part of the smart car ,do you think it will do any damage to the panels if I change my mind at a later time and take the wrapping off?

smartdad-

first, 5 minutes is too long to wait for the cd changer to switch. thats deffinately something we would need to adress.

second, as long as you have the plain plastic pannels (not the red, silver or blue painted pannels) i dont see any issue with wrapping it. id just be concerned that if you wrap the painted pannels, that when it comes time to remove the wrap, that it could possibly pull the paint off. other than that, i see no reasons for concern

jeepster-

The USA smarts have no DRLs; Canadian smarts do. Rumor is in Europe you can have your smart center "enable" the DRL function via their computer, after which the driver can control DRL off/on. So far, no way to get "factory" DRLs for the USA, but there are aftermarket DRL modules available. The whole issue is discussed here: http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1482&highlight=daytime

i have not heard of th us smarts being able to be programmed, but i am working on getting you guys a concrete answer, and possibly a solution to the concern.

we have been working with a company who deals in aftermarket acessorys for the fortwo, and i will find out if the have a module available

maybe, but my guess is 'no'. most of the guys i worked with should have retired before i started there! ha ha

i would hope they're still around, just not having to 'work' now......but hey, ya never know.

FYI, i was in the parts department...worked for Roger Williams who was the Parts Mgr at the time.

BTW, we're enjoying OUR weather today.....sunny and 70!!! :)

I was wondering... since you can place a reservation online for a Smart... do the salesmen work on salary or commission??? I was up at your dealership about a week or so ago and test drove a Cabriolet. The salesman was very nice, but I can't find his card nor remember his name (bad with names!). If he works on commission, I would come up there (about an 1.25 hr. drive) to reserve rather than cost him a commission and do it online. Of course, online is easier and saves me time and gas, but used to sell cars and I know the commissions are badly needed.

you should probably call them to find out who helped you with your test drive. my guess is that when you order 'online', a 'brand specialist' is assigned to you by the smart center, unless you request a specific person.
