June 5th or 12th works for us.
No route or preference...a convoy of smarties would be cool anywhere. But what about Madrid??? :smartje.rd.zw: :smartje.rd.zw: :smartje.rd.zw: :smartje.rd.zw: :smartje.rd.zw: :smartje.rd.zw: :smartje.rd.zw:
Great idea! So good in fact, that we just drove that route solo last weekend. How does a picnic out at the VLA (Very Large Array) west of Socorro sound? We'll need to make sure the visitor center is open on Sunday. We're working on some more ideas too... and Madrid is a great one, maybe for our second tour?
...we might be going to the VLA this weekend, but not taking Waldo (our Smart) . If we do go I'll check on their schedule.
Actually another thought since you're suggesting a picnic...the Crest? Plenty of places along the way, or at the top. We've driven to the crest before and get all kinds of looks and questions, like...that car can make it up here??
Hi IRSMART, did you make it to the VLA last weekend? For now let's plan our drive for June 5th, and keep it short and sweet. We have an idea for a little tour and brunch. The map is still being created, but as soon as it's ready we'll get it to you, or post it, or something... don't quite know how to do that yet. We just emailed our Smart Center since they said they could forward the info to their email list, so if you're on their list you'll get more info that way too. We hope that sounds good to you, and that the 5th is still a good day for you!
The Smart Drive on June 5th went very well. We had a lovely group of Smart Enthusiasts chatting and sharing information. We met at Napoli Coffee on Carlisle, drove to Flying Star in Bernalillo for brunch, cruised up to Algadones, around to Placitas and stopped at Sandia Casino. Our next drive is scheduled for Sunday July 10th. You can visit our new website: www.NMSmartDrivers.net for more info and to contact us. IRSmart, we hope you can make it next time! We would have enjoyed having you with us on the 5th.
There sure is a lot of smart cars in Santa Fe.
Seen 8 so far. Blue and black soft top, sitting on Madza
Used car lot. Very smokey because of the fires.
Wish we would have driven ours here.
Too windy crossing Kansas, in it. Too much artwork
to haul back too.
...weddings and associated parties all done. Now it is time to RELAX with some other 'smart' people.
BTW...did get to VLA mid-June. They are open 7-days a week (daylight hours I think) but I wouldn't recommend going there until it cools off. Even then, it is a bit far to drive for the short time spent there (we did it on the way to go camping...no not in the SMART ).
However, "the VLA hosts tours every first Saturday of each month from 11:00am-3:00pm including hands-on family friendly activities related to the monthly theme. Th event culminated in an evening Night Sky Star Gazing at the Etscorn Observatory on the Campus of NM Tech in Socorro. The night time event begins at dark and lasts two hours, weather permitting. Contact Judy at [email protected]" (from a handout picked up at VLA).
No VLA for us yet. Your advice to wait for cooler weather is good... and after further consideration we decided it probably wouldn't be the best Smart Tour. Thanks for the detailed info! We do hope to go sometime later this year, but probably just by ourselves.
