just want to know if the interior light can be manually turned on while the door is closed?

i know that the light can be on by itself when the door is opened but i can't turn the light on with the door closed?

does smart make it in that way or the lamp is just not working?

Answer to your question is Yes.

The picture is of my car a 2009 451 cabriolet.
My 2008 smart's interior light worked the same way.

Previous owner may have disabled the ON side of the rocker switch in favor of the door switches only to avoid killing the battery? Ask me how I know, jumper cables in hand...

May want to pull the light assembly and take a look?

Could be the switch going bad. I know in my 2013 if I stitch from “on” or “off” to “door” sometimes it won’t light up. I have to wiggle the switch a little bit then it pops on. So I’m assuming the contacts are either worn or corroded. Haven’t bothered switching it out yet as it always works after a little movement.

I decided to replace my interior lights with some aftermarket parts once they stopped working. Oh boy, it was the worst decision ever. The regular fluctuations were making me go blind; it felt like I was having a seizure while driving at night. I was at fault because I had no understanding of how these systems work.

I wish people stopped selling counterfeit products but everyone is just trying to earn a living. It's about time research centers develop anti counterfeiting technology to counter these malpractices, whether they like it or not.

These switches do go bad if you use them very much- or not at all, then change them. They are similar to MB W123 light switches which don't last after 30 years in the same position.

I put an LED bulb in.

Superbright LED's

Can Bus means that there is a resistor in the bulb, so an error code does not get set...

For the little bulb on the side, I like the oversized 13 LED in amber, really bright...
