Hi all,
I'm due to get 80000 maintenance schedule for my Smart fortwo. I'm going to have 50 point inspection done.
And then decide what needs to be replaced depending on my available budget.
Also, my exhaust is broken and I've heard that Smart's exhaust is expensive.

I would be extremely grateful, if I can please get some advise/suggestions on the best auto repair/mechanic shop in Michigan.

Thanks!

Welcome to SCoA!

Check with the Mercedes-Benz dealer in Ann Arbor. They used to sell smarts and smart USA says they still service them. :)

570 AUTO MALL DRIVE, ANN ARBOR, MI 48103
(734) 663-3300
Thanks for your response :)
I checked with Mercedes of Ann Arbor. They are quoting $549 for the service.. As expected, they are extremely pricey. I want to get the car serviced at a non-dealer shop.
I've narrowed down to the following places in the order of priority:

Mechanic one auto repair
Griffin's neighbourhood auto clinic
Farmington garage
Auto lab plymouth

I'm going to speak to them tomorrow and find out their price details. Would still love to hear from fellow Smart Fortwo owners about their service experience in Michigan :)

Thanks!

Any competent mechanic should be able to do the vast majority of work on the Smart; ask local friends and acquaintences for who they use.
As with any career path, there are good mechanics, fair mechanics, and terrible ones; when you find the good ones treat them well and hold on tight, they pay for themselves in efficient, reliable work...also, bring donuts, it works wonders. :)

I don’t know where you live in Michigan. There is a very reputable automolive service. Nation wide. Christian Brothers Automotive, several locations in the Michigan area. Pull up their website to locate those service center, near you. I’ve been using them for years, on all our brand cars. Why spend Outrageous prices for service, at a Mercedes-Benz dealership.

Pavan, did you find a mechanic in Michigan? Now that the Ann Arbor dealership is no longer servicing Smart, I need a mechanic anywhere in southern Michigan. Thanks very much.
I'm in the same leaky boat at the moment. I need my transmission looked at, and live in the Metro Detroit area.

My one local guy does not do transmission. I'm will to travel outside of Metro Detroit to have the work done, but not out state.

Suggestions?

Ann Arbor does not service Smarts at all nor do they sell parts. Found this out yesterday from the extremely annoyed person working the parts desk.

They are not licensed to handle anything Smart related anymore.

I looked at the official Smart website, and there is no authorized place handling Smarts in Michigan as of today. :(

Hence...the reason I am scrambling. Lol...

Any good automotive repair shop, can preform service on a smart car. It’s not a exotic car. I haven’t been to a MB dealership for years. You can buy repair parts from these people. Most transmission repair shop, don’t normally repair existing transmissions. They replace them with remanufactured ones.

I've used 2 different Metro Detroit shops recently, Revive in Troy, MI Nick is the owner. John & Holger in East Pointe. Both are good, ask them about the transmission as I have note had that worked on.
