My 86 year old dad was driving. Seems like minor injuries to the front left and back of his head, and a bump on the left leg, but was sent to the ER. Good news is he seems good enough may come home today, (total 1 day and some hours in the hospital if so.)

The SUV was able to continue on it's way.

Thank you guys for the concern!

My dad is home. The subdural hematoma has stayed the same size/is stable, so he's good to go. Thank you!

I put a lot of money into accessories back then when I had more discretionary cash, so I do hope they find it is still financially reasonable to fix it.

My family seems split on whether the smart protected him enough, as opposed to something larger I guess.

My adjuster noted the other party got an attorney. Said the person may have gotten injured.

Sigh....

It's being transferred to another location, again, (second time). Hopefully no more of this. I'm missing out on parts and possibly a 453 if they do total it. Need a special jig to complete the estimate.

The adjuster said I don't have to when I asked him if we should find one. That's good news for me, I know they can be very expensive...

Smart should be moved by tomorrow morning. I hope by afternoon I'll have a definitive answer....

Uh, I opted for no rental coverage because we have many cars in the household, but recently I Planned Non Operational 3 of them, which means I am down to two for me and my parents, plus the two of my wife. Long story about that arrangement.....

I appreciate all the advice. Thank you! Not sure who's fault at the moment...... But it's still an open case.....

I did pull the trigger on a Sylvania ZEVO FOG DRL unit on sale at Amazon for $136.41, just in case they can fit it, or to use on our '12 Prius v. For Toyota there is a special mount but can't seem to find a good source for it at the moment.....

Looks like a salvage title is in my smart's near future. Now the decision is whether to keep it to repair or let the insurance have it for some more money. Don't know the dollar amounts yet...
Too bad. If it were me, I would just get a inexpensive barely used model instead. If you repair it, it will always have the accident sitting on the carfax depressing the resale value substantially (the insurance won't reimburse you for a loss in your resale value).

It will be branded salvage is what I was told, which a few have advised me on the "process" of getting it back on the road. I'm supposed to find the receipts of all the stuff I've added to it. I haven't sold a car in the 25 years that I've been driving, but I've had a little experience with a salvage car my dad had when I was a kid. He told me it never aligned right, which concerns me. Still have an '85 de Ville and 300D sitting in front of the house. I think one's worth pennies and the other is actually starting to go up in value. Not too worried about resale value with that in mind, BUT: how little they may be offering me as I checked KBB online and it noted $4k trade in value!, I still owe some to Mercedes, $3xx x 4 or 5, plus my $1k deductible, will pretty much eat up whatever I get.

Still trying to fix one headlight's mounts on a Prius v, bumper sitting in the living room!, and the A/C on our Sienna. It's been hot, so hopefully I'll figure that out soon as that's what my dad is driving now.

Busy busy me, busy as can be! (Sigh).

You might get to buy it back really cheap. My daughter totaled her car a couple of years ago and I got the car back for very little then sold the whole thing for more which help pay for her next car. But if only the control arms and struts are damaged I would fix it. If it bent the frame, it is toast. If you can put up with parting it out, you might get some of your value back.

Make sure you know what you are getting in to before you go for a salvage title. Things have changed in many states.

In Georgia, you have to make an appointment to have your totaled and repaired car inspected. It can take six months or more to get an appointment, and there are only two or three inspection centers in the entire state. The closest to Atlanta is 50+ miles away.

Once there, you have to provide repair receipts, and your car is subjected to various tests, including some kind of metal stress test.

Only when you've completed all these steps do you get your salvage title.

The intent was to get cars held together with duct tape and bungee cords off the road. The unfortunate result is that cars with simple cosmetic damage are parted out or crushed because no one wants to go through the hassle.

You used to could accept a lower offer on your vehicle, and keep it with the cosmetic damage, but they won't even let you do that anymore.

Anyway, just be sure things haven't changed before you think of getting a salvage title. Your insurance agent should be able to tell you what the current rules and regs are about salvage vehicles.

Glad your dad is OK. Mine wouldn't even ride in my Smart. At least yours' mind is still open to new things, lol.
