I asked at Goodyear when I had my summer wheels put on and they will be working on smarts. If you don't trust them the only "private" guy I know is Tom Chodorowski. He buys and restores smarts from all over, used to work on them in Poland. He is even farther out than Loeber's but if you want his info pm me

I am wondering if there are any other places to take the car besides the dealers in Chicago for maintenance and repairs?

Where is the Goodyear Dealer you are speaking of?
Shoot.... Dont be scared !...lol...You can do simple stuff yourself like changing the oil and filter....or the airfilter ..or interior air filter.....even the trans fluid.... It will make you love the car even more.... Plenty of great people on here to help you out when you have a question or need help ! It's not a rocketship or doing brain surgery.... I know have a good head on your shoulders if you picked such a Cool car to drive.... Or should I say ...you are Smart enough...lol.. (play on words not a reference to your intelligence:))... But good luck either way..hands on or paying for service ! Happy Holidays !

Also looking for a Smart mechanic

I too need to get my Smart serviced (standard maintenance stuff) and don't want to give Loeber anymore of my money. I know I could do the work myself - my dad owns an auto repair shop out in the farms - but we don't have the time to get it done. I'd love to find a reliable mechanic in the City to take it to. Where do others take their cars?

Starting to get reconnected with the forum ...

As my son has kind of 'adopted' our smart as his daily commuter since he needed a car after graduating from college coming up on 3 years this coming May and all I asked is that he maintained it. At least initially, we took it to Loeber as well but at their MBZ labor rates we asked our local mechanic closer to home and they have been able to do just about anything it needs at better rates and of course the convenience (at least for us, they are quite close to home). They'll only do stuff that it really needs (they'll check the brake fluid, etc. and if it needs it they'll change it, etc.) ... anyway, they're an independent shop that also sells Bridgestone tires. They're in Schaumburg, CNS Automotive. At close to 40K on it, the tires still look good as well as the brakes, seems to eat headlight bulbs and more expensive synthetic oil changes but otherwise gets really great mileage on his commute but we may well trade up to an electric drive smart when they get out this way.
