I'd like to start off by saying that I was all in when when they announced smart was coming to the U.S. I went for a demo ride in July 07', reserved and received my new smart the following August. I even traded up for a silver 09' Brabus in March of 2010. The fantastic people at the smartcenter of Bloomington, MN were always a pleasure to do business with and talk to. Their passion and enthusiasm for the smart was contagious. You could truly see their hearts and souls were into making this new venture successful.

I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking to hundreds of people since buying my two smarts. Making new friends along the way. Whether it be at a gas station, parking lot, or various stops while traveling to rallies throughout the country. It was always fun to have people come up to you to talk and see the car. Some of my best vacations the last few years have been at smart rallies.

The Midwest Rally-Wisconsin Dells 09' & 11', Kansas City Nationals 10', Outsmarting the Dragon 10'. After my Dad died in 2005, I started taking care of my Mom. She never went on any big vacations her entire life. I took her to the rallies in KS, Wisc Dells, and the OTD. I remember the look on her face everytime we showed up at the rallies and saw all the smarts gathered about. She'd be smiling ear to ear the entire time on every trip. The best was the OTD. We spent a week down in the Great Smoky Mountains area driving around. To this day, she says it was the best time of her life. She had never seen such beautiful scenery in person before. It brought tears to her eyes. Once she stopped yelling at me to slow down driving through the twisties, she really enjoyed herself as the scenery flew by. I never did slow down by the way!! You don't get to drive on roads like this too often and I was going to make the most of it. She still talks about those trips today!!

I cannot say enough to all the hard work and dedication to the individuals that put so much time and effort into making the rallies successful throughout the years. I've never seen such a variety of people come together over a small car and have so much fun.

Well that was then and this is now.

Two smarts and 36,000 miles later. The great dealership and people at Bloomington, MN are all gone. No local dealer or warranty service available within 6 hours driving distance in two years. No updates from Mercedes Benz since pulling the plug in Minnesota. Time to get real. I think MB has written of Minnesota. Like one of the small states in the presidential election with 3 electoral votes, that doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things. For me it's too little too late. I'm moving on. For the price, it's hard to ignore what the other car makers have brought to the table in the sub compact class in regards to MPG and features. I've traded up to a company that has over 755 dealers nationwide, 10/100,000 mile warranty, and 5 year/60,000 mile roadside assistance for free. My new car gets almost the same MPG, has four times the room, improved ride (especially in the winter), comes fully loaded and costs about the same as a well equipped smart. I even have about 8 dealerships in the metro area to pick from for service work.

I have a few leftover items for sale that I have no further use for:

Full set of Brabus wheels/tires - only 20 miles on them and in
(Excellent Condition). $2000.00 + shipping OBO
Front and side smart Madness Heatshield sun reflectors - used but

Silver smart madness smart brella window cover - used but good to
great condition. $25.00 + shipping

stickers made by local graphics shop - just a few each, very
nice quality $3.00ea + $.50 postage

MORE FOR SALE:

+ shipping.
Silver smart Madness tow hook. New in box. $40.00 + shipping.

So to all my fellow smarties. I will miss you all. Good luck and I hope you have many enjoyable miles and adventures in your smarts.

Chris

Thanks for coming to the Midwest Rally and the other events I helped to host.

Can I get some of those "actual size" stickers? I will send a PM.

Sounds like you've gone to a Hyundai Product?

Congrats... We'll miss you!

If no one grabs the bumper bar or the wheels, I'm very interested.

Welcome to the ranks of former smart owners. I'm now two cars on from my smart, and since I do very little driving these days I get to indulge my inner child and am driving a Subaru BRZ. I still miss my little smart at times though.

Did you get a Genesis???? :). No hard feelings at all. Lack of a nearby dealer was why I went Hyundai for my latest new car.

Sounds like he went for an Elantra ( I almost did too but price of slightly used Smart was better than anything I could find on an Elantra.

I'll take some "actual size" decals as well.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to everyone. It's been a busy week. I work nights, so my schedule is a lot different than most people. Good guesses on the new car though. I went with the Kia Rio 5 door SX. It's MPG ratings were just downgraded to 28-36 mpg due to a calculation error during testing. However, due to the error, Kia is supplying me with a credit card to offset the difference in MPG plus 15% for the inconvenience, for as long as I own the car. They've since corrected their website and window stickers on cars affected. I also got $500 off for a military discount. Everything is still available. I wasn't expecting such a quick response. I have responded to a couple of PM's and they have the first shot. I'll send replies to those people I haven't PM'd back tonight and discuss further details.
I also have a Kia Soul (24-29 mpg). I needed more room because of my new hobby of competitive pistol and 3 gun shooting. It's been taking up a lot of my time during the summer. Some of us do have a life and don't spend it on forums all day. LOL - Stretchmobile

I see they've downgraded the smart to 38 mpg this year.
