Back in 2007 I purchased a spin-on oil filter adapter for my 450 through SmartieParts.com.

Recently, my adapter has begun leaking. I believe its because the gasket/seal is six+ years old, and it looks really flat...everything else looks great; no defects, scratches, cuts or other damages to either the adapter or engine. I've crawled under the car, wiped the underside clean(ish), and waited...the leak clearly comes from the seam between engine/adapter.

I believe my spin-on adapter was made by MDC, as the one on their site looks identical to mine. My adapter does not look like the one which evilution uses.

Does anyone know if MDC was the source? Or even what I could use to replace the adapter's seals with? Maybe a specific sized o-ring?

I'm really hesitant to rip the old seal out and take measurements, as...well *ahem* I can't find the old plastic cover anymore...and...um...oil

This shows the futility of buying a product like this, the price would have been as much as buying 10 or even 15 of the standard filters, and with the smart service oil change being 9000 miles the car would be dead before you could use them all. Think how many miles you want to drive that car before you change it, divide by 9000.
The plastic screw top is only £21.65 - buy one of them and a few filters, £5 each - save yourself some money. Shipping would be by FedEx for £18 (dollar price is around 1.64).

We used to sell a product like this, made by a man on a lathe in a garden workshop. Where did he get his gaskets? He died with the secret.
We have sold thousands of filters, around a half dozen adapters at most.

O-ring did it

MDC never did reply to my requests for information on the gasket (hence why I originally asked here).

Meanwhile, I have since replaced the square gasket with an appropriately sized o-ring, and its been working perfectly since. Just be sure to oil that ring thoroughly, or it'll snag when spinning on the adapter.
