So Stinky and I have been holding are own individually with the Heavy hitters. You know em and you know how good they look in groups. The BMWs, the Dodges with Chargers; Challengers and Durangos, the Minis, the Subarus, The whole JDM crowd, the GM Muscle, even the Fiat group, all Growling Popping and Snorting. Yes they impress. But Stinky and I know you have been running right along side them all, just like us, Knowing that as long as we keep them in sight until the curvy stretches come, where we can give any of them pure hell. We also know that sitting still we are the show darlings because we get all the curiosity seekers.

Well as of today Stinky and I have met, merged and mean to Show up and Show out this season.

We will be Small Balling and Mensa Smart.

And we are looking for our clan.

We got each others backs now, but we want to run in a pack. Come bold in the park buzzing around all the fore mentioned beast.
So lets figure out how to get out and run a few routes and roll to a few show and shines together this season.

The Harlem Edition has two big rides planned this season one to The California Canyons and the other to Nova Scotia All other weekends, name a show or run you would like to run with a crew andl right now you have 2 ready on the wing.

Today was a great day for Stinky and Me.

We will be reaching out to any who want to run a little this season as well as continuing our ongoing mods to Stinky and the Harlem Edition.
Hope To See You Along The Way.

It’s the 50th anniversary of the Cannonball Run. Be interesting to do a Smart version. Not going to break any records (well, maybe a few Smart records)...

That's interesting but it was not my intent to run hard until I got to California so no rush was intended. ..... However that is a interesting thought.
I wasn’t suggesting a rush, but it could be interesting to retrace the original route, as closely as possible. Could be a bit of an endurance test for a Smart as well. What sort of spares would one take?
"What sort of spares would one take?" FWIW, I did a round trip from Dayton to the the Pacific Coast and back, via Deadwood, SD for the 2016 smart nationals, and put around 6K miles on the car - took no spare parts or tools and didn't need any. :)

I intend to run with the ability to change a full spare, and a 2.5 gallon gas can. Then what is always in my car. A quart of Oil, some windshield washer fluid, some antifreeze. and my normal tool kit. Oh and a clear credit card.

I was planning on seeing some friends and meeting some SCoA members for coffee along the way.

So outside of that pace and friends stops, I would change all plans to to shoot for a 32 hour run with 34 being doable in my mind.

I like your thinking. Likewise, I’d pack a full size spare, oil, coolant, gas, belts, bulbs, tool kit. I have a friend who might just be crazy enough to be talked into such an adventure.
I wish there were some enthusiastic people down here in Florida or NY was a lot closer. It's been a long time since I was able to hang out with other smart minded people.

I just take a spare tire and floor jack. I'd be totally willing to Cannonball my way across America. My record to date is 2200 miles in 36 hours. GPS said it should have taken 31 without stops.
I took a look at the book I have on the Cannonball runs. Turns out that next year is the 50th anniversary. There was a dry run in May of 1971, and then the first competition in November. The winner of the first run was a Ferrari Daytona driven by Dan Gurney and Brock Yates. They completed the run in 35 hours and 54 minutes, averaging 80.8 mph. At one point Gurney had the Ferrari up to 172 mph. Obviously a Smart isn’t going to match that, but the overall time appears to be within reason. So would/could a Smart hold up running flat out for 36 hours? With proper planning and preparation I’d be game to try. Be fun and interesting, I should think. Dash cams are cheap, so the entire trip could be recorded.

The most debilitating thing is rim damage because of 3 lug availability on the fly. One thing to repair or replace a tire a whole other thing to get a rim shipped out. Wow now that I really think about it lol run all the way to California only to have to run the canyons on a ugly under performing spare "yuck".
Well great to see we have potentially six cars already to run cross country May 2021. (better to take the test run warmer month due to less chance of snow.) .......... SmartBall Rally 2021 sponsored by US "Mensaa" Rally Group Co sponsored by WAZE navigation solutions. Sign up for pack run on original route or individual sprint run, ........ hmmmmm imagine that

Smartball! Great! So the original logo for the Cannonball was this (more or less - there seem to be some minor font variations floating around.

Poster Signage Sign

Replace CANNONBALL with SMARTBALL and put a Smart logo in place of the sunset, and I think we’d have a logo. I can try my luck at it later today.

love the idea of a pack of Smarts dashing coast to coast! I might have to cajole three friends and field two teams!

maybe we need to start a Smartball thread. lol

In the interests of safety, could mandate or require certain basic spares be carried, such as a proper spare. I carry donut spares locally, but on a 3000 mile run, I’d definitely want a real spare. It would be interesting to see a variety of tires put to the test. Might get some sponsorships there (and some free tires).
I regularly do Gambler 500 rallies in a very much stock smart. The little thing also tows trailers like a boss. Likewise, I've taken all three generations on lengthy sprints dotting across this country. :)

This year there's going to be the Gambler 500 version of the Cannonball. We're setting out in Chicago then running Rte 66 all the way to LA. Considering the point of the Gambler is an endurance rally in $500 cars, that's going to be very interesting. Most people are going to buy their cars sight unseen here in Chicago then as we'd say: "Send It!"

These fortwos can not only handle the punishment of running 30-40+ hours nonstop, but do it without breaking a sweat. Now you the human? That's the toughie. You're going to want a co-driver to do it safely.

And we wish you were here George. So far it’s the legendary Harlem addition and Stinky up here, thats the extent of the crew. Need to add some others to the mix, especially a beautiful black Brabas with 17’s

My first stab at a logo. Pardon the roughness, but I think it conveys the general idea. SMARTBALL!

Maybe change it to "ANNUAL TROPHY RUN".

Doesn't look like the original group bothered to copyright "sea-to-shining-sea" so you're good. A little history: The Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash :)

This is becoming quite an interesting endeavor, what about SCOA trophy run? I wonder if the owners here would allow the use of the initials? I’m down for this, time to purchase another Genius and Nitto...

I like the sound of that. Maybe add “First Annual” to it. In the hopes that there will be more.
