My 2009 FourTwo started chugging a few weeks ago. It was fine under load but when you tried to move forward in drive or reverse it would lurch. Well it lurched on the driver way and would not move. When I put it in drive or reverse the D and R would not show up on the display. Looked through the forums and it was suggested to service the clutch actuator. I removed it and the arm was all the way out and even with the motor removed it would not go back in. I decided to buy a new one. It arrived and I installed it in the same position as the old one, the car moved but it was still lurching a little bit. I moved the actuator in a notch or two until when I drove it the car drove a lot smoother. Fast forward to this week. The starter was making a little grinding sound when you let off the key so I headed to the auto parts store to order a new one. Stopped and put the car in park and when I went to leave the gear selection showed up on the display but the car goes no where. Any suggestions? Car has 96,000 miles on it.

I replaced the clutch actuator a couple of months ago because my old one just locked up. I also did the relearn proceed immure after. It was fine for a while and started acting up.

So as it turned out 2 bolts were completely missing from the transmission 1 was broken off and 2 were loose causing the transmission and engine to separate 3/4 of an inch. Unfortunately the input shaft was damaged as was the clutch. So a rebuilt transmission from Mercedes and a new clutch assy and I’m back on the road. I do not know how those bolts got loose or missing but I will be checking them periodically from now on.
