Hey everyone! :)

It's time for my first oil change on my Smart. I was wondering if any of you have suggestions on where to take it in. I can't change my own because I have street parking and have no place to do work on it.

Do I need to bring in my own oil filter, or is there some place that is used to getting Smarts regularly and keeps them in stock? I'd prefer not to spend the outrageous $118 @ SF Smart Center.

Thanks in advance!

Any local oil change shop should be able to do it. Call them and ask. It takes 3.5 quarts of Mobil 1 0W40 oil & a Mobil 1 M1-108 or Bosch 3300(or equivalent) filter. Some places will even deduct the filter price from the oil change if you bring it with you.

Good luck:)

:welcome: to SCoA! You can buy the oil & filter (look for oil change specials at local auto parts stores) and take it to a local shop with a good reputation. Don't expect them to know all the in and outs - you'll probably have to walk them through it. They may not have the correct lift for your smart so get that settled up front. The drain plug has a screen attached to it - needs to be pulled straight out until the screen clears the oil pan.

Here's the smart USA info: smart USA Owners Portal - Oil & Filter
and SCoA info: http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/forums/f25/semi-official-how-change-your-oil-3480/

It's such a simple job. I'd suggest buying the filter and oil, take a pan with you and drive to some out of the way spot, like the large parking lot of a closed mall or something. I'm sure you could find a secluded spot. Just don't leave a mess so you can come back with no one bothering you. Or find a friend with a driveway.
