Happy new years all, hope this year is better than 2016. Any how I was looking at my sun roof yesterday and it is not clear anymore. (all scratched or stressed) Do I need to worry about it cracking and failing? it's a 08 just wondering. I did see some for sale on ebay awhile back.

Your roof is probably crazing like quite a few others have experienced. It is cosmetic only. Might try calling SmartUSA & see what they suggst. It would be a long shot if they would warranty a replacement, but it is worth a try.

Buy an aftermarket 28" sunroof, and paint the top black. Did that on my first '08, and about to do it on my newly acquires '15. The roof is approximately 3/16 thick, and cuts easily with a laminate cutting sabre saw blade. Line the bottom of the sabre saw with duct tape.

The crazing is not uncommon and smart doesn't seem concerned about it. They won't do anything about it either, at least they have not done anything about it in the past. Same thing that happens on aircraft windows and they don't replace them either. Eventually you will learn to live with it. Replacing the roof has been done and isn't cheap, Adding an aftermarket sunroof does work, but I personally don't care for the looks of it when it is done.

Thanks for the replies, It really does not bother me I keep the screen pulled closed all the time anyway. I was only worried about it breaking. When I was in Iraq we had Plexiglas on the guard towers and They would break with the winds. No worries then.

The panoramic roof is a polycabonate as opposed to Plexiglas which is an acrylic.
