I've been noticing that when I fill my tank I can run about 60-80 miles before the first segment goes off then when I get on the last segment it won't go more than 25 miles before blinking

Your car is working correctly. there have been numerous posts about this and that is normal for these cars. The gauge is not linear due to the shape of the gas tank.

Thanks for that helpful info , I haven't run mine down to the last bar yet .. it's good to know that's how many miles it has at that point .
TRobinson6 has a 451. The 453 tank that you have is an animal of its own. The last bar in my 453 goes almost 50 miles!

The way the gas tank is shaped is a giant factor in the funky way the gas gauge works for a 451. Mine is the same as the OPs, but I never let it go below a half tank.

I discovered this "issue"too. For a long time I though each line represented one gallon but they actually dont.

For mine if I fill up to full without topping off then the first segment on my smart fuel gadge is just about two gallons and the rest are one gallon. My smart is getting close to the 45,000 miles mark but I still get 350-400 miles on one tank.
