I forgot to charge either of my dash cams last night (Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini/Apple iPhone 4), so my maiden voyage of my Carlssons this morning was without recording.

Anyway, I was on a rural road heading to work on approach to a T-Junction (Southbound) on the main road. Speed Limit was 55 MPH but as I was following a slower moving car up front, I was only going about 50 MPH with maybe a 5-6 second gap between that other car.

Sitting at the side road at said junction was a new, red Toyota Camry waiting to turn left. The car in front passed through the junction and instead of going right away, the Camry driver (an elderly lady) waited until I was literally two seconds from passing her to pull out into the intersection. And but of course, once she noticed me (she wasn't looking left!!!!) there she slammed on her brakes right in the middle of the lane.

Within those 2 seconds I managed to apply the brakes, lay on the horn, swerve to the right (narrowly missing the rear quarter panels) and dart back to the left just in time to miss a street sign and a tree on the other side. All the while not spilling the Monster I had in my left hand before the incident.

A MINI Cooper behind me just had enough time to come to a complete stop before hitting her STILL STATIONARY car that was in the intersection.

Had it not been for some quick reflexes, my smart doing its job, and honestly...luck; she would've been T-Boned at her driver's door by a car going 50 MPH as there was no time to make a confident, non-emergency maneuver.

Driving with a Monster in one's left hand? With what kind of monster do you car pool? Alien perhaps? :D and one that requires hand holding?

Yeah, possibilities like this, plus the inconvenient cup holders, are why I gave up trying to drink anything while driving my Smart - I'd rather be thirsty than wearing the drink! Glad you managed to get by her without problems; body shops aren't fun places to visit, IMO.

Especially if you just dumped $73 on some awesome fog lamps! :D

Still wonder how I did all that with effectively a hand and a half.

Lucky you weren't on your cell phone, smoking and putting on your eyeliner, with that monster between your legs, coffee monster that is, I assume. :D You could have been burned.

No context.

Nah, it was one of these! :D

Not much of a fan of beveraging (I made up that word) and driving, though I'll occasionally drink some energy supplement during my drive.

I also never ever eat in my car. Once food crumbs get in your car, they'll never get out!!!!

I had a surprise event happen to me once. Two children were chasing a cat on their front yard. It decided to run across the street in front of a car driven by an elderly lady and her Mother. They were coming towards us in the opposite lane until she locked her brakes, the cat being long gone, and veered directly in our path a moment before impact. After kissing our bumper square in the middle of the hood with a glancing blow, thankfully, her car continued on up over a curb and knocked down a low brick wall.
I was driving a Pacer at the time with an excellent view of the event. Other than a small cut on my passenger's head from impacting the rear view mirror, we were unharmed.
It might have been much worse if it had been a head on collision.
It goes to show that one never knows what is going to come at you in an instant. IT pays to be alert and in a highly maneuverable vehicle like a smart, and even then you may not have time to react.

Your subject line immediately made me think about the early morning beach drive, during Spring Break, when I spotted a young lady crossing the road who apparently had mis-located her bikini bottom.

Wouldn't fly on YouTube though.
