I’m having an issue in hot weather with my UltraGuage is indicating 212-214 and sounding an alarm before the cooling fan kicks on to drop the temperature. I’m not sure if this is normal or the specific gravity of my coolant isn’t right. I’ve already burped the air out of the system so I’m confident there are no trapped bubbles. I’ve also checked Xentry to see if there is a software setting to lower the temperature that the fan turns on, it it appears to be just a single temperature thermostat that turns the radiator fan on and off. Any thoughts?

Thanks in Advance!

With ScanGuage II my Smarts fans kick on at 213 degrees consistently. My normal running temps are 184 to 195 degrees.
Exactly the same here for
My 2009 smart 451 cabriolet
With the a/c off traveling over a long distance with the engine totally heat soaked mine settles in at a rock sold 188.6°F while moving. When stopped at a stoplight it will fluctuate up to 195°F
The fan kicks on at 212-213°F

Your car is normal. Both of my 451s go to 213 degrees before the fans kick on and the temperature goes down.

Fun fact: Many car manufacturers program temperature gauges to lie so the customer doesn't run to the dealership concerned about overheating.

For example, GM, VW and Toyota vehicles will indicate smack dab in the middle of the gauge when the coolant is between about 180 and 230 degrees. The needle only exceeds the middle mark when temperature rises above 230. So for 50 degrees of temperature range the needle does exactly nothing. Of course, 451s go even further by not having a gauge at all. lol

I’ve never had a modern vehicle in my stable over heat. In over the 40 cars, I’ve owned over the years. My 1970 Camaro SS thermostat was the only one that stuck. Luckily a mile away from home. A quick trip, to Western auto, replaced that puppy. In less the 45 minutes. I look at it, if it’s not broken, don’t worry about it.

I never felt, I needed a scan gauge on my smart car. Going on 13 years now. The only issue with our smart car. We were stuck in grid lock. I-70 outside St. Louis. 110 degrees outside. The dinky AC evaporator froze over. The car didn’t over heat.
