Hey guys, I just bought a new to me 2010 fortwo this week and while driving home from dinner I had some weird issues that google isn’t helping with. While backing out of a parking spot the car bucked pretty hard and I heard a clunk. It went into drive fine like nothing happened after that but at the first stoplight the car died in gear and wouldn’t go in to neutral to restart or push out of traffic. Even manually moving the shift cable in to neutral did nothing. After about 10 mins I tried to start again just for the heck of it and it fired right up and drove home with no issues. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? If so what was the fix? Thanks!

Welcome to SCoA forums.
It sux when the the excitement of getting a new/used car is overshadowed by costly problems right off the bat.
Hopefully you will be able to get the transmission repaired somewhat reasonably, if you are unable to do it yourself. Good luck and please keep us updated as to the solution.

With the smart cars now being orphaned here in the US, outside of this forum there is very little help that can be had here in the US.
We have members from Europe on this forum looking for help with their smart car problems.
Take care

+1 on the clutch actuator. Our car started doing that at around 60K miles. Had to remove the actuator, pack it with fresh lithium grease, and most importantly, make a small change to it's position when bolting it back in. There are fully illustrated threads here to enable you to tackle this fairly simple chore.

Congrats on buying your smart, you will love it.
