Sure changing he fluid and replacing the seal is easy but I would like them to make sure everything is in good working order
Having worked on a few transmissions, you can usually judge pretty well the condition by the fluid that comes out, if you see a large number of metal flakes you might have an issue, but even a little glitter isn't abnormal. Unless you have had an incident which is expected to have caused damage, such as operating with the wrong/no fluid, introduction of debris, etc, there is unlikey to be any significant issue; transmissions like these are relatively simple and reliable. They are sold as sealed units with the fluid intended to serve for the "lifetime" of the transmission; I personally think it good to change it every decade/100k miles, but I would not spend the money or effort to open it up for an inspection unless there was a very good reason to.

Any particular reason you are concerned about the transmission?

I've been using George Murphy for probably 20 years for both oil and transmission fluid analysis. I highly recommend him. Tell him I sent you his way. Cost is $14.95 for one.

Hi, all! I have a 2016 Smart ForTwo Passion (automatic-transmission) with 74K miles. I have had all of the routine services that I can think of done except a transmission flush. My local Mercedes dealer where I purchased my Smart wants $550.00 for what appears to be draining the fluid and adding new. I find this absurd. A YouTube video showed the filler plug and drain plug is removed, the fluid drained, new fluid added (some specific amount), and that was it. No particular rocket science there.

I cannot locate any manual on the specifics as to what fluid and what quantity. My local garages won't touch it for some reason. Even the local AAMCO place seems to be dragging their heals and don't feel particularly confident in this. I can find nothing in the Owners Manual that even mentions servicing the transmission.

Does anyone have any insight on this? I can't imagine this is all that difficult. Also, do you know of any national chains that might handle this service without charging me $550?

Thanks!
