Looks like Chelsea has a little itty bitty amount of rust forward of the wipers on the tridion cell. Thankfully both of the spots with the rust are not easily seen: On the fold where the tridion disappears under the front panels.

I'll post a real pic later, but see the attached photo where I circled the problem area.

Upon close inspection, it looks like the paint peeled off in this area and the rust is only surface rust. A quick wire brushing should whisk it all away.

I want to follow Evilution's guide to fix this (if you don't have an Evilution sub you should! )

It involves cleaning the area of the surface rust, coating the area with some resin, then painting it to pretty it up. Seems really easy. Chelsea won't be driven in the winter so any rust I fix shouldn't return.

Will this be best or are there any better remedies?

Thankfully the rust isn't nearly that severe, there isn't even any bubbling. I'm guessing when the paint peeled it exposed the naked metal, which promptly surface rusted. Impacted area is about a square centimeter on the left side and at the most 3/4ths an inch on the right.

So far I'll probably end up doing the Evilution method, which I could do without peeling off the front panels.

I've used that rustoleum product, on my metal basement window frame. Also on my patio umbrella stand. It works really good. Turns rust to black good metal. Primed both after wards. Gave both of them a good top coat of paint. Held up 15-20 years now.

Perhaps the hood (or bonnet) cover was rubbing in that area. May want to add protective material to the area of cover to help buffer any future damage.

In my 450 experience (10 years), the rust is most likely caused be a rock striking the
area chipping the paint and then the process of oxidation begins. We're on our fourth
windshield...

Oh yeah, the panel is nowhere near that area. Even if I put weight on the panel it won't budge. Lebikerboy is likely correct about the rock strikes. The left spot looks like a direct impact from a rock and the right spot was likely the same before the paint peeled off.

My windscreen is also cracked. It's not going to be driven in the Winter so I'll probably get that replaced in the Spring or before Winter gets here.

In areas that aren't really visible I use Zinga cold galvanizing coating, which is grey and can be painted over. It provides unparalleled protection from corrosion ever returning. It's the stuff painted onto galvanized fences etc where they are welded together.
