Trunk won't open anymore

I have a 2011 smart fortwo cabriolet and it started having this problem a month ago. The left side of the trunk will open but the right side will not, I can hear the electric motor when i press the button so i'm completely confused on what is wrong. i read a lot of advice but all of it was related to the manually opened trunk of pre-2011 models
