I was going to have a hitch installed on my 451 at UHaul, and then they hit me with a $100 fee because they didn't have the part in stock.

I find that to be a poor business practice, so I looked around and found that if you buy the hitch on Amazon (http://amzn.to/29vJpSo) they'll also arrange for installation for you.

Wiring will be extra, but I can do that myself if need be.

Other thing I learned: if you're going to tow a motorcycle trailer, many of them have five pin wiring. It's flat, so depending on how they wired, the four pin plug should also work just fine.

sounds like they did not want your business. They probably already made too much money this week..

The extra contact on a 5 pin connector is for the back-up lights.

I get that alot with independent shops. Some that I went to, did not want to work on my car. An alignment shop told me once they couldn't do my car as it didn't fit their hunter rack.... I have heard of a few excuses so I am forced to go to the dealer.
Sounds like the U-Haul guy didn't want to work on the car.

I've had a love/hate relationship with uhaul with my other car and getting a hitch installed.

I knew we were going to move so 2 months before I set up an appointment online for a couple of weeks before the move and purchased the hitch online. The local uhaul was supposed to call me a week before to apt to confirm the time. Never heard from them. Went in and was told they have it and just come in.

Get there and they don't have my hitch (it was never sent to them by uhaul). They looked in the system and see that a store 35 miles away has the hitch. They called them and asked can they transfer the res over to them and would they be able to install it that day. We were told sure, be here between 3pm and 3:30. I drove all the way there to be told "Oh, it was slow and we had no appointments so the installer already went home. Come back in a week." Luckily they DID have the hitch and after her spending 25 minutes looking at my receipt that showed it was paid for, she let me take it with me so I could have my local uhaul install. They were great though. Couldn't get me in the next day (Saturday) but the installer said for me to be there on Sunday and he would come in just for me.
