unusual problem (steering)

I have started noticing when driving my 451 that I have an intermittent catch in the steering. when driving straight and you turn the wheel to the right just a little to correct your steering you can feel a catch in the steering wheel. it is very intermittent and may only do it 2 or 3 times in a few miles. it does not happen after hitting a bump or any other reason.

how exactly does the steering assist work?

anyone else ever experience this?

I only feel something similar when I catch my tires in a rut in the road.

I have experienced this as well, but only on long trips on the highway with my 2008 cabrio.
has yours gotten worse over the years. my car only has 38k miles so it can't be worn out yet
Had another owner (since sold his car and moved on) that couldn't get over that same feeling and had the steering fixed, they replaced the whole unit and put new tie rod end on, cost a LOT of money. On a car with 130xxx miles on it.

Maybe try swapping tires and getting everything lubricated real good.
