I am not going to believe it unless Miss Mercedes confirms it, but this rumor is being spread.

200+ miles on a charge... got my interest.
I stopped even looking at the Smart 1 when I heard we were never going to see it here.
I may not believe it until one pulls out in front of me here in the U.S.

It will be imported here. Rebadged as a entry-level Mercedes Benz crossover. $30-40k vehicle.
Has all the styling DNA of MB family.

If true, perhaps Mercedes Benz won't abandon the owners.
Don't hold your breath... :)

MB already abandoned its owners here!
I'll reach out to Smart on Monday. Last I spoke with Smart's PR people, I was told that there were no plans for a U.S. return.

Edit: That site is bizarre. The slideshow features pictures of a BMW i3 and a Toyota while it talks about the Smart #1's features. And it's making the claim that it'll be the cheapest car in America...which isn't even close to being true.

Yeah, the site appears to be hosted in India. I don’t put much faith in it, but want it to be true. Pretty hard to compete with a Bolt EUV on price.

All I want is a 453 with 200+ mile range. There are plenty of small 200+ mile range electric crossovers on the market already

A 453 will never meet that range. smart writing off that car. It’s dead now

The brand new Fiat 500e meets those requirements. We’ll see if FCA/Stellantis, imports the city car
here. It’s already the top selling city EV in Europe.

The brand new 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV , starting price will be around $30k. A really
nice vehicle over the older Bolt.

Yeah it’s too bad because the Fortwo was really the bread and butter of the US smart brand. For me, the Fortwo being the shortest wheelbase car for sale in the US at the time was the appeal of the car. There are street parking spots in SF that literally only a 451/453 or motorcycle can fit in. The 500e is nearly 50% longer than my 451 & 453 and just wouldn’t fit my needs. I owned a BMW i3 REX and I’d take that over the 500e any day.

I went to SF for the first time last year and I was just blown away by the number of Smarts out there. Usually I saw two on almost every street, sometimes more! It was like smart heaven out there!!!

It's a huge contrast to much of the rest of the country, where you could drive from Montana to Ohio or Nevada to North Carolina and maybe see one or two Smarts.

Yeah, the smart car was huge in SF when it first came to the US market. I still see at least 4-5 smarts driving around everyday.
Sorry to bring it up again in another thread... but when it comes to smart cars in San Francisco... I have to mention this 2008 record...

200+ smarts lining Lombard Street back in 2008.

[Edit: I might be a little overzealous in my total estimate... but I seem to remember being told (as I passed one of the organizers at the top of the hill) that I was vehicle #134 or something like that. What a great day that was.]

So, no word from Smart yet on a U.S. return. But there is a confirmation that Smart isn't abandoning the Fortwo yet!

My 2016 gas Smart gets over 200 miles on a tank...or less...I never saw how much further I can go on that last bar....I will stick with what I have...
