Hi All,
On a recent trip the parking brake area and floor of the car seemed a bit warm. I stopped for 5 min and verified that oil and coolant levels were satisfactory, although the coolant reservoir was hot to the touch. We had been on a long but gradual climb in only 50 deg weather. After resuming the trip the previously warm areas now seemed cooler. Is this normal for a Smart? Thanks.

That’s normal. The temperature of the handbrake appears directly related to the temperature of engine and transmission. That latter one is s bigger factor in my car.

We can't tell from your profile or post what model or year you have, 450, 451, 453 , 2005-2017, but it was normal on my first 08 and on my current 09.

Having all the above in your profile is really helpful to any member trying to assist you . Even your location helps, because there are some differences between U.S., Canadian and European models.
If you're in a really tight jam you may even have a member who lives close by to help you.
Take Care and Happy Holidays
