Smart Rally At The Glen 4
July 10th - July 12th, 2015

Please follow the Smart Rally At The Glen group on Facebook!

BUYING TICKETS - MANDATORY:

Just like it has been in years past, I have no involvement in ticket purchasing. Keep in mind you can get a 3-day Wine Festival pass for the entirety of the weekend or you can just get a 1-day pass if you just plan to come for Saturday.

(Pending approval to quote Rob, I will add the ticket-buying-info here.)

SATURDAY MORNING MEETING:
We're going meet at Walmart in Watkins Glen on Saturday morning (July 11th) at 7:30am. We'll hang out for a little bit, and if anyone wants to go into town (or to Walmart) for food and meet back up in the parking lot (8:00am), that'll be fine too. By 8:30am, we'll be leaving Walmart to go to the track.

Here's the map from Walmart to Watkins Glen Raceway, via Google Maps. We can meet in Watkins Glen (the town) right on the lake, less than 15 minutes from the Watkins Glen International track. The Walmart will have a big enough parking lot so that we don't crowd some business unexpectedly.

So, meet at Walmart in Watkins Glen, and then drive over to the track for our laps!

AT THE TRACK:
The laps will be at 9:00am on Saturday. (Just like each year.)

We will need to arrive at 8:45, and go through Gate 2.
Through the gate, we'll take a right, and go behind the grand stand to line up
There is a crossover gate where you cross the race track.
We will sign waivers that say if we wreck it's on us.
There is absolutely NO PASSING and NO SPEEDING. (The 'Glen is nice enough to give us the opportunity to do this each year. Don't land on the banned list, or screw up a good thing for everyone else.)
We do our laps around the track, escorted by Pace Car!
Finally, we will be led to our parking place - to be determined, details to follow.

Saturday will be a free-for-all to enjoy the Wine Festival, go back in to town, do whatever you want, and chill.

SATURDAY EVENING COOKOUT:
In the past, we have just had a cookout at my cabin in the State Park. This year, I believe I'll just be going on that Saturday. Work has been hectic, and on top of that, I may or may not have (I did) forget to book my cabin 9 months out like I have. Needless to say, everything is taken!

SUNDAY MORNING BREAKFAST:
9:00AM on Sunday, for anyone that hangs out, the recommended breakfast-of-choice is Savard's Restaurant at 601 North Franklin Street, Watkins Glen, NY. The restaurant has been packed in years past, so expect a little bit of a wait for a table, but trust me, it's SO worth it!

Let me know if anyone has any further concerns or questions. I sure hope I addressed everything by now!

This gal from Texas wants to know where Watkins Glen is? What state? What part of the state? A little more information would be helpful.

Check out the links in Post #1 ; Watkins Glen is in the Finger Lakes region of New York state - and the home of Watkins Glen International Raceway, a race track with tons of heritage. :)

JWight hit on it. It's at the southern end of the one of the Finger Lakes; there's a link in the main post to Google Maps I think you may have missed. Can't get much more specific than an address on the track. :p Most importantly, a person from TEXAS? Wow! Maybe we'll see both of you there?!

Only a few participants it seems this year, but that's ok. Goes back to the personal kind of rally we had the first year. A small little group so no one missed anyone! :p Hope for big numbers at year 5!

Thanks for putting this on. Five cars seemed just right on the track - plenty of room to move around and no crowding. We had some really great weather and it's always nice to meet some new smart owners. Had a nice wander around the harbor in Watkins Glen and grabbed some breakfast before heading back to Bath. Discovered another aviation museum on the outskirts of town - the Glenn Curtis Museum, well worth the visit. :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you for coming out. It always means a lot to me that total strangers (well, in a relative sense, we're all friends here) take time out of their schedules to come have fun at my little event.

I actually just popped in today to post #5 . A few changes in the mix, but all in due time!
