Howdy

i’m not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but when the ignition is on but the car is not running (say if you get home from a drive and turn the car off and then turn the ignition back on to hear the radio), say after 5 minutes there are weird electronic clicking sounds like some sensors are going through a checklist or something. This continues repeatedly every few minutes. As anyone ever experienced this before and if so does anyone know what’s going on or happening?

The sounds seam to mostly be coming from above the radio where the climate control system is. But not 100% sure. It’s kind of hard to tell.

Likely temp and recycle air door actuators moving to the park positions.
I hear it from time to time when I shut the car off.

It could be, but it’s much more of an involved sound than that.

Hmm that’s odd as the only other noises I’ve heard after shutting the car off is the relay from the Sam unit when.
You may want to get the car scanned for codes to see if there is something up.

If the speedo is removed and reinstalled, there is a rapid series of clicks. Maybe a loose connection?

Good point but if the cluster is doing it then it’s likely a failing cluster unless someone purposely left the harness lock loose.

The only time I hear it, is when the ignition is on but the car is not running. You have to wait a few minutes before it happens and then it will keep repeating itself every few minutes.

the dash has not been out, there are no codes and everything works great…🤷‍♂️
It’s probably some sort of system check but I have no idea.

I’ll try that in mine and see if it does it too.
Could likely be the hvac adjust the temp door but I’ll see tomorrow.
I’l post if mine does the same.

I have a similar thing that happens in my 2014ED. If you hear the clicking, look at your center console, is the"P"for park lit up? I found that when I put it in park and take the key out too fast it stays on and it makes that clicking noise every few minutes. If I turn off the car and wait a second before taking the key out it doesn't do that, and the "P" light will go out after a minute.

That’s odd as I tried that and mine doesn’t do it.
I hear the dash from the heat of the heater core making it heat up but that’s it.

This happened to me several years ago after I—stupidly—overfilled the A/C. Once my mechanic in Brooklyn replaced the coolant, the clicking stopped.

One of mine does it. If you move the temperature setting it stops.

I noticed mine did it today but only when the car was on with the fan off on the hvac system.
Never hear it when the car is off.
I know on mine it’s the temp door actuator moving the temp door.

i’ll have to try moving the temperature setting when I hear the noise next time. See if that changes any of my experience.

I’ve also noticed it.
Hopefully that’s what it is.
