What is Pumping-up ?

I have a Pure 2010 for two. When first started in morning, I can hear a sound like an electric pump -Pumping- (while motor is running) for about 30 to 50 seconds then turns off... ?
(car garaged & fairly warm here in Az.)

Not found anything in the Smart Book I have...

I Know NOTHING much about Smart Cars, Just Harley Davidson motorcycles...
