I have a 2008 smart for two passion and recently had some front end repair work done due to a collision with a piece of a truck tire retread at 65 mph. After getting the car repaired I now notice this device/component hanging from the cable assembly that also contains the driver's side fog light connector and was wondering what this might be. Is it's placement critical? My first thought was maybe a sensor for the front end air bags and then I thought maybe a thermostat sensor for the outside temp but that would be an odd place to have it.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jeff

I'm guessing outside temp sensor.

There is a place for it...That is the outside temp sensor. I t belong in an opening near the bottom of the main support. I indicated where it goes with the yellow arrow. You will have to lower the splash pan from the under side of the car and you should be able to reinsert the sensor....Point end facing forward.
