Just bought a smart 451 and it's got this which is fitted under the steering wheel underdash?

Does anyone know what it is and more importantly what it does?

Welcome to SCoA!

What trim level is your 451? Any chance that it was a car2go in a previous life as those may have some add-on electronics?

It could be a cutout switch for the heated mirrors or a fuse 11 switch to cut out the traction control. Trace where the wire goes, or just experiment and see what happens. Chumly

It is a piece of a KARR Alarm system which the person who bought the smart decided to turn down. That is the deactivated piece. I know because my mother's '12 Prius v has one....

Dealers pre-install them and offer them to the purchaser. If turned down they deactivate them instead of wasting effort to remove them.
