I just figured it's about time I start a thread just for my own moo car and my journey on keeping my status as the fastest most powerful smart car around... with retaining the factory engine and block :)

Since I posted this picture below, this could be like a mini blog.. but more to let people who are interested to chat and try to figure out what happened and what are my intentions and what the heck am I up too ;)....

that crank looks pretty hefty from a distance. Maybe it is time to think about NOS.

Thanks for the picture - very interesting. I also like seeing the WD40. And who's tie-wraps are you using???? It looks like they may be Walmart brand but I want to make sure. :):):)

hmmm I just looked at it and there is no brand.. but it's really old, there's like 1200 pieces, like I'm going to use it all =P... the tie wraps were used to HOLD the A/C compressor against the subframe so it's not being supported by the hoses that's still attached to it LoL... I dropped the whole engine and transmission without touching the subframe.. haha..

The WD40 was used for one thing and one thing only, as a cheap release medium when I was making a mold of an engine component this afternoon.....

By the way, here's the FULL RESOLUTION of the photo from above if you want to see it in more DETAIL.. Click on the yellow bar above the photo to expand it...

wouldn't it be great if you could pull apart a 98bhp Euro Brabus motor (turbo) and do some comparisons next to the US version. You would not be able to compare directly but you could see if/how much beefier components are.

Larry I am quite disappointed to hear you still have the AC. Even if it doesn't save that much weight it should give more room when all the components and lines are removed.

fastturb haha u are too funny, but guess what.. I have removed the ENTIRE air injection system, air pump, valves.. now THAT gave me A LOT OF room.. for other stuff in the engine bay ;).. HAHA

It came apart first by choice, then by necessity.. or if you want I could just say both :) It's rare to be able to have both but in my unique case it was... I wont be able to tell you everything until 4 weeks later when it's all back together but for now.. this will be a journey u guys can follow with me :)

The "mold" was made to have better parts made and to figure out if I can retain my factory block.

jet, maybe you could develop a pedal extension set for a smart. you could put your plans and ideas on the forum and we all could debate and bash them. Then you would realize - wrong way to go and you could write up a brochure saying how the extensions improve performance for everyone under .... say 5'6". You could make them in different colors and sell them through a partnership with smartUSA as the authentic pedal extensions. You could line up a Chinese manufacturer who would produce them for less than $5USD including shipping and you could sell them wholesale to smartUSA for $200 who will sell them to the willing smart owners for $319.99. You'll quickly become rich and have all the things in life you ever wanted even though you'll never be tall.

Larry, sorry for sidetracking your thread for a short posting :):)

You've torn the engine down this far are you planning to stud the mains and rods?

Also I know a shop (GM) in Detroit that'll cut a crank and rods out of Ti for ya! For a price of course!

Nice to see someone getting an engine apart.
A good opportunity to take lots of detailed pictures.
-Ports
-Combustion chambers
-Intake manifold.
-Valvetrain
-Pistons, rods, caps
-Bottom end, mains, crank, etc.
-Flywheel (any room to machine some weight off?)
Is that a 120 degree crankshaft?
