I assume you are talking about a basic gas smart car:

wheels and tires...less than a grand

Brabus suspension...less than a grand

cold air induction, silicone tube, emergency brake handle with sleeve, metal pedal covers, cargo cover, arm rest, and 3rd brake light pulse...less than a grand

upgraded radio/stereo...for less than a grand

installation...a bit more than a grand.

Or buy a used Electric Drive in the same color and tell them it is the same car.

I have used American Racing wheels on many cars years ago and they make a fine wheel. If you have a 451, I do not know if they make a 3 lug model. I had a set of 4 lug 7x13 flat spoke wheels on a '74 Pinto back in the day, but that was 43 years ago.

I tried to buy a set of Torque Thrusts to put on my car trailer, but the American wheel rep at the Street Rod Nationals said they did not suggest using their wheels on a car trailer, would not support the weight.

Since I have done most of the mods to my car that I really wanted, probably have the rest of the interior redone in nice leather.....or $5,000 worth.....whichever which came first.

Guess for me it would depend on which smart I was upgrading.

Brabus, I kind of like it the way it is so most I might do is a turbo charger kit which will eat up a good chunk of that $5k. Then a quad band radio and antenna = $500. Bluetooth hands-free kit or upgrade radio 10 to Nav radio. K&N filter in place of stock filter but no CAI.

Passion, I like the factory wheels so would leave them. Would look at the Brabus exhaust or perhaps turbo kit, http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/forums/f27/aftermarket-exhaust-system-40046/. K&N filter, quad band radio and antenna. Same audio system upgrades. Would probably not consider a skirt kit since I notice the one on my Brabus can be damaged due to how low to the ground it is and how crappy our roads are. Perhaps in place of the turbo I would go with a Brabus suspension upgrade. Stiffens ride but improves go kart like feel.

Pure, wheels and tires if they are steel to Passion or 450 size Brabus wheels. (not the really low profile Brabus on the 451) Or the Passion style aluminum rims, also kind of like the look of the three spoke rims. If the interior was kind of beat up I would consider going to an auto upholstery shop and have the seats recovered in leather. Most likely Katzkin covers, Mercedes Smart FORTWO COUPE / CABRIOLET Katzkin Leather Seats, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 | AutoSeatSkins.com. Guess this option would apply to any of the above as well depending on condition of seats.... Then consider the exhaust system if money is left over, might forgo Brabus twin tip in favour of less expensive options. We have a shop here in Pickering that does stainless for good prices and would take the smart there for a custom setup. We've done most of our cars there. Not sure which aftermarket system I would go for, would depend on remainder of budget at this point. http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/forums/f27/aftermarket-exhaust-system-40046/ Would forgo the 2way radio gear in favour of the above but if some $$ were left might consider Bluetooth options and a mount for an android tablet as my music source.

Just hat you need , another smart of a different version to keep track of. :bangwall:

Now if it was a roadster with the V6 in it....
I think a 450 would be easier to keep track of than a roady. A roady of any age would be a hit and miss with water leaks, engine rebuilds, oil drinking turbos, etc. :)

But a diesel 450? Oh it would be marvelous!
