Those are 65 watt bulbs. You may melt the headlight housing…

Also, stay away from “Ultra” bulbs, the Smart has a lot of vibration, and they will not last.

Hmmm. I better put the question in to check if Virgil happens to know if it is safe.... Be back as soon as I know...

EDIT- While waiting for a response I did a little math, at 12 V:

65W: 5.42A
55W: 4.58A

I have used SilverStar and now SilverStar Ultra for many years in all my vehicles, including motorcycles and scooters. Always get German version. Never had an issue or short life. Have found cheapest prices on eBay.

I can add that the Sylvania H7 Basic, depending on what the batch you’re getting, can be made in Germany, China (yes), and in Slovenia, as my recent purchase. They are all the same. They are believe it or not, are the equivalent of the OEM bulbs that came with your car.
Sylvania here - Osram there..
Just my 2 cents.

Yup, got a green light that it's a good fit:

"Yes, Stern's 65 watt H7 bulbs will be safe and effective with the '09 Smart ForTwo headlamps and wiring...assuming the headlamps are aimed correctly and in good shape (no lens haze, etc.)"

Any head lamp brand will do. I’ve replace more headlamps on that car, I can remember. The brighter bulbs have a shorter life. Like Sylvania Silverstar. I always replace the head lamps in pairs. I took stock out in Sylvania. Tail lamps burn out too quick.

Rock Auto carries A wide range of bulbs. Any auto parts store, has them too.

I have seen that comment about SilverStar bulbs burning our faster but have never experienced it. In all the many years I have used them in almost a dozen vehicles I have only had one build burn out and that wasn’t in short time.

Let's get some facts straight but I'm glad that this hasn't blown up into a debate/argument.

The higher performing bulbs are driven harder and do have a shorter lifespan. This is a fact. If it is a pain in the butt/difficult job to change the bulb Virgil would note that and take it into account in his recommendation. If you find it difficult to change the bulb in the smart headlight you can go to candlepowerforums Transportation Automotive section where my thread is and bring it up. I'm sure he can give a longer lasting alternative.

If the best (and safe) vision is of the utmost importance do buy the bulbs from Daniel Stern. He sells them by email only because he will verify the safety of the application before sending them out to a customer, on an individual basis. Remember you can have super bright lights, blind that oncoming big rig, and we may be hearing about your obituary the next day. Good condition OEM headlamps AND proper aim is of the utmost importance, the H9 burner on a H7 base is an "upgrade" and could be potentially blinding.

Sylvania makes SilverStar and SilverStar Ultra. The Ultra version are brighter but do have shorter lifespan. I do believe that they take care of 1 yr life warranty issues nevertheless. (Try taking them back to the store of purchase with receipt if they burn out in less than a year).

Not going to start a headlight bulb war! Lol. Can only share my experience with the SilverStar and SilverStar Ultra bulbs by Sylvania/Osram. As I stated before, I have used these bulbs for many years, starting with the original SilverStar bulbs then on to the Ultra when they became available. I am fully aware that the bulbs are reported to have a shorter lifespan but that has not been my experience with them. I have used them in more than a dozen vehicles ranging from sedans, SUVs, motorcycles and motor scooters. In all the years I have only had one bulb burn out. On the cycles and scooters the bulbs are on all the time and the service is rougher. On a few of my cars the bulbs were on all the time because the headlights were used as DRLs. I have not used any other brand of brighter bulbs so have no experience otherwise. Some years ago in the earlier stages of their adoption it was recommended by many to only buy the SilverStars produced in Germany as those made in other countries had more frequent burnouts. Five of my 6 vehicles currently have them installed. My 2016 smart has had them installed for almost 6 years. No burnouts. I have owned one vehicle for 20 years and started with the SilverStars, only replacing them when the Ultras became available. The original SilverStars I removed from the car were then installed in my scooter and used for a few years until I sold it. No burnouts. The experiences of others may differ. I can only recommend based on my experience.
