When I am driving the car seems to lose power. If I take my foot off the accelerator and then press on it the power seems to get back to normal. I have to do this while driving or the car will just slow down. I have a 2014 four two smart car. Thank you for your help. Ginny

Are there any warning lights on the instrument cluster? If you can get it to an auto parts store they should do a free scan for Onboard Diagnostic (OBD) codes which should help identify the problem. :)

Years ago, I had a 73 Monte that was doing something like that. I had just overhauled the carb (huge 4-bbl) so maybe it was my under the tree mechanics fault, and had him re-do it for second $50. It didn't work, so I had it sent to Firestone where the 'real' mechanic said it was the 'fool pump' and sure enough, that was the problem. Now I know our smarts are much different from those exotic Landaus but maybe there's an answer in my story. Good luck!

Got to be more to this story...have you taken the car out and run it through the gears at full throttle? If not, try that and see if there's any loss of power under hard acceleration. If you're driving in the "D" mode, maybe the car is up shifting at a slower speed, which can feel like a power loss.
