I just bought a 2013 smart fortwo passion hatchback

According to motortrend.com/cars/2013/smart/fortwo/passion_hatchback/3378/cost_of_ownership/ , its gonna cost me over $1200 a year to get insurance for it.

Now, I live in an expensive part of the country (NYC), so I assume the insurance for me will be even more expensive

Can anybody point me into the direction of the cheapest possible insurance for this? I'm already prepared to pay at least $100/month to insure it, but I don't wanna pay too much more!

All help is appreciated!

I've got State Farm; my 2010 Smart is a little over $550 per year, my 2002 F250 is $520 per year, my 19 yr old daughter's 98 Escort is $440 per year and my wife's 2010 Escape Hybrid is $1300 per year - but State Farm is mad at her, with good reason. That's for Cincinnati, though, not New York (although the Escort is spending much more time in Rochester than in Cincinnati). Multiple car and multiple line discounts are figured in on all of those, though.

thanks bob... appreciate the help

i've actually been getting quotes all morning for this thing. quite the headache if i do say so myself.

so the takeaway is that the big companies all quote me around the same....
i found a small, shady company called www.4autoinsurancequote.com who quoted me at $58/month... but it seems too good to be true and the company looks a little sketchy, so i'll stay away... but it is tempting... (thoughts?)

As for other quotes
Geico - $90/month
State Farm - $75/month
Progressive - $78/month
Amica Mutual Insurance Company - $88/month

I'll probably stick with State Farm as they are the cheapest of the 'reputable' companies. You also seem to like them (as do many others), so state farm is probably my choice.

Thanks!

$75 sounds pretty good for NYC, depending on what coverage it buys you. if you pay monthly how long is the policy for? (eg. when can they increase/decrease your rate?)

Here in Austin for my 2013 passion coupe State Farm is charging me just a pinch over 1200.00 per year, about the same price for my '07 Honda Accord. I thought about shopping around, but we have been with them forever and they have always come through when I needed them.

When I owned mine every 6 months it went up, guess it's because now it has recorded so many accidents , when I first got it it was low.
