Hey all - got an old '08 violating my HOA codes in the driveway and need to sell/donate. Anybody have opinions on best place to get good value sending off effectively a totaled Smart? I'll run through the laundry list of its woes:

- Frozen steering wheel - does not move one bit either direction, wheels are effectively locked forward. No idea what the problem is here.
- Rusted off muffler - junction broken @ engine, muffler swings freely
- Two snapped front springs, just draped around the front shocks.
- One deflated, unfixable tire
- Dead battery, but car will not start even with a charged battery. Electronic system error everyone here will be familiar with.
- Broken off antenna

To fix all of these things would probably come to the 3k mark and definitely not worth it for me, considering this car was driven carefully on smooth roads and all of these things happened as though it was being jumped in mud games or something. I think that about sums it up. Thoughts on what best to do with it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Put it in the free section on craigslist. I'm sure someone will take it for parts. I wish I had a vehicle and a trailer, I'd gladly take it for parts and an engine swap project.
With the little weight this cars weigh it would probably cost more to put it on a trailer and take it to the junk yard.

I would just get your car fixed. From what you claim, issue wise. Doesn’t sound like there’s $3K worth of fixes.

If you want to get rid of it. Just donate the vehicle to, the blind association. They will fix the car up. Sell it, the proceeds, will aid the blind.
My neighbor done that a couple times. Tax right off too.

Car last ran probably 3 years ago, but I need to be able to at least claim a tax writeoff for this thing.

3k might be pessimistic for a fix, but it'd definitely at least 2k taking it to a shop around here. A mysterious locked up steering column? An undiagnosed computer fault? The laundry list would turn any mechanic's pupils into dollar signs.

Worth looking into the donation places I guess. Thanks

If you want a tax write-off, a donation is basically your only choice. I think even Goodwill has a service to take cars. :)

If you want to work out a deal and have it picked up, let me know. I am across the border in Michigan with an identical car that needs many many things. Send me a PM. I have 4 days vacation coming up too.
