Hey folks,

For the past several months the ESP light on my 2008 has been turning on. What’s unusual is that the ESP light turns on when the car is started and then turning the steering wheel either left or right by about 10 degrees, even when the car is stationary. Since it drives normally, I haven’t been in a real hurry to get it fixed. I’m wondering if there is a sensor in the steering mechanism that may be at fault.

I’ve read other posts regarding the ESP light issues on this forum but what I’m experiencing appears to be different.

Has anyone experienced what I’m seeing?

Thanks!

If you can honk your horn when you are getting the esp to light up,
keep looking BUT, if your horn does not work when you get the esp lighting up,,,The diagnosis is a faulty "Clock Spring".
Is it important? Oh YES!
the clock spring is the electrical connection to the airbag in front of you, as well as the electrical connection to your horn, therefore, no horn,,,no airbag !
