hahaha. honda fit...hahahaha. dumbest looking car ever. if only the car matched that advertising image behind it.

Oh please with the likes of the Pontiac Aztek in the not so distant past, calling the Fit the dumbest looking car is a bit of a stretch.
ah touche...alas the Aztek met it's untimely demise...current cars...the Fit has to be up there. sad too because Honda sells way cooler compacts in several other countries that we can't get.

I'll stick to my original contention that I am purchasing a car as a utilitarion object and not as a, and I'll repeat, a fashion statement. Oh, I get "it" all right, driving your smart car you be be the object of admiring glances as one who is outside and above the crowd. The car itself is different so I am , by way of association, different. Who's kidding who here. It's nut and bolts and rubber and plastic. Rearrange those same parts and you can make an Aptera and , yes, I would be willing to pay twice as much to get four times the mileage.

I'll have to admit that I too was getting a little tired of reading the excited posts by the 1173 bunch because I am a, and I'm more than a little embarrased to admit it, 1200. There I've gotten that off my chest....
glad you got that off your chest, but 1200 is not too shabby! (you've already configured right?) Yours may be here in March! :)

It is all about the gas mileage

I agree with ared08. Its all about the gas mileage.
My reservation number is 1405. By then we should be seeing some solid gas mileage numbers. If I don't see numbers in at least the mid forties then I will definately be looking elswhere. The Honda fir looks good to me!

Wrong. Wrong. (second Wrong added because the board thinks one Wrong is too short.)
actually no, YOU are wrong my friend. i travel to europe 2-3 times a year. i think i would know there pal. with the exception of the Autobahn which even has a speed limit in certain places and hours.

here ya go know-it-all. this is for France:

Highways and open roads - speed limit is 90 km/hr. Your average trip speed could be 70-80 km/hr depending on area and traffic (1 minute per km, with time to spare). We often travel at 70 km/hr on small roads with light traffic and good scenery.
Towns - speed limit is 50 km/hr.

you're dreaming man. mid 40's are you serious? when was the last time you saw a mileage sticker on a car that was actually MORE than what is claimed? that's one of the biggest scams still out there that Congress was supposed to fix by like many other things has not. the highway mileage listed is still based on 55mph!!!. i have an S5 in the garage that lists 14 and 21. i'm lucky to get 12.

Not necessarily the number of reservations made...

My dealer only has 230 reservations and yours may have 1000-2000? BUT, since my dealer may get less cars, you could do better. I guess we'll see. :D I'm still excited. Yee HAW!

But when they were made and what is the last four of the earlier reservists. Our area may only have one 1173...that would put me second on the list to receive my car.

I hope that is the case and it may be since I've gotten notification from both the dealer and Smart that the car is in country and due into Latham Smart Center probably in the next 2 weeks. When the cars roll off the truck into the dealers yard and they check out the VIN's....that's when we'll know whose on first and whose on second.....to nearly dupe a very popular dialogue...

After this long wait, 2 weeks is nothing.

the dealers have the VIN's right now. many on this board have them (including me). the dealer can tell you right now if you are getting one of those cars. if he can't give you a VIN, then you likely are not next in line i would guess.

That may have been under the old way the EPA figured gas mileage, but now there are lower, under more real word conditions. The Smart will easily exceed the 33/40 rating. I've seen mpg's already in the 50's with the gas 451 in Canada!

trust me. i know all about the "new" procedure. as i stated in another thread, i buy a lot of new cars. 18 in the past 10 years. i've never ever been able to match the mileage on the window. and that continues with the 2008 S5 i have. i can't drive that car slow enough and still can't get anywhere near the numbers.

i sincerely hope you are right and this car gets even close to 40. i would be even stoked with 30.

Are you sure that was mpgs and not kpgs? Because 50 kpg is about 31 mpg. If correct what are the conditions...downhill at 55mph or? 50 mpg would be nice but I doubt it, I spend about 50/50 of my driving between freeway speeds of say 70mph and stop with a little go.

It's MPG, BUT this is for an Imperial gallon which equal 1.2 US gallon. This nets us 41.66 MPG stateside. As an overall figure not bad for a brand new vehicle not yet broken in. Consider that a new smart is apt to be pushed harder at the beginning in order for the new owner to gauge its mettle.
